Staying in Emst
In Emst, our activities focus on the study programs which are mostly given in Dutch by our resident teacher Geshe Sonam Gyaltsen.
However, we regularly have visiting teachers like Ven. Kaye Miner, Ven. Sangye Khadro and Andy Weber who teach courses in English.
Course registration
Please register at least 3 days before a course (excpet evening meditation and stupa-days), as we need to count on you when we shop for food. After registration, you will receive a confirmation and a payment ID required when you make the payment. For more information, please contact Maitreya Institute Emst.
Payments
Please make your payments at least 10 days before the start of the course, to our bank account 6901668. If this does not work for some reason, you can also pay in cash or with pinpas in the shop.
For conditions of the module-tariff, see the Dutch page or contact us.
Cancellation/absence and refunds for courses not part of the Basic Program or Masters Program

Karma yoga
Most of the work in Emst is done by volunteers. Because of this, we can keep the course fees low. Besdes the course fees, we request all participating students to do an hour of karma yoga during the day; that means light household chores that are essential to run the course smoothly whilst keeping the fees low. Besides this, karma yoga is a practical part of the course; practicing karma ultimately means to do positive things for others.
House rules
During a stay in Emst, we request everyone to abid eby the following five main precepts:
- not killing (including animals and insects)
- not stealing (taking what is not given)
- no sexual activities
- not lying
- no alcohol, drugs or cigarettes
Smoking is not allowed on th entire property. If you need to smoke, please do that on the smokers-spot at teh Heemhoeveweg. Burning of candles and incense is strictly forbidden outside the gompa.
Bed linen and towels
The use of bed linen and a towel is included in the course fees. Please make up your bed with the bed linen found on your bed. If this is difficult, please ask a fellow student for help. Please never sleep on a be dthat is not or only partially made up. After the course, please put the bed linen and the towel you found on your bed in the laundry trolley. All other laundry, even if white, not in the trolley but in the laundry buckets. You can save the Institute a lot of mney with your mindfulness!
Bar money
The institute offers coffee and tea for free throughout the day. Other drinks and snacks should be paid for in the special pot on the bar.
Various other things
Please leave your shoes in the cupboard near the entrance and take your house-shoes with you.
Please be mindful to not leave your clothes and toiletries behind when you leave. Lost and found objects are kept for only one month.
The building has very poor noise insulation, please be mindful of noise, especially at night.
Staying outside courses
Members can stay in Emst outside courses to do retreat or short holidays, and of course if you like to help us with volunteer work. Please contact
