Lojong (Mind Training) - 2 evenings with Ven. Amy

How Its Application Can Help Us Prepare for Death with Confidence and Compassion

Please note: due to personal circumstances, the initial dates have been changed!

with Ven. Amy Miller, online (2nd session also onsite)

While we generally think of death as an anxiety-producing experience of grief and loss, it can also be a positively transformative opportunity if we have trained our minds. Lojong (mind training in Tibetan) is a profound practice with which practitioners engage in meditation and daily life applications to reshape thought patterns. This approach views challenges as opportunities for growth, guiding practitioners towards a compassionate outlook and a resilient mindset. In essence, lojong offers a concise yet powerful path to inner peace and spiritual development.

Exploring the profound lojong text, 'Turning Suffering and Happiness into Enlightenment' by Jikme Tenpe Nyime, the Third Drodupchen Rinpoche, Venerable Amy will help us prepare for this important time of transition and teach us how we can train our minds for a more peaceful and happy death. She will also help us understand what happens at the time of death, how we can incorporate emptiness and other spiritual teachings into our daily training, how mantras and prayers can be helpful, and how to help others who are passing away. Open to all levels although some background in Buddhism helpful.

  1. Tuesday April 16 – 19.00 – 21.00 hrs
  2. Tuesday May 28th –19.00 - 21.00 hrs (also in person at Maitreya Instituut in Amsterdam)

Recordings will be made available after the class.

Dāna (generosity) is one of the cornerstones of the Buddhist path. By virtue of their generosity, the Buddha and the ordained sangha offer us the teachings, and in exchange, the lay community supports Dharma centers and the monastic community. This interdependence is essential for us to share the Dharma and continue our work to benefit all sentient beings. With your donation we support our teachers in their cost of living and we uphold our dharma center, which is managed entirely by volunteers.

The suggested donation for this course (3 evenings) is €45. For students and people with low income, the suggested donation is €30. It's also always possible to donate in installments. Please send an email to amsterdam@maitreya.nl if you'd like to make use of these options.

The donation amount should never be an obstacle to your access to the Dharma! Please contact us if it might be an obstacle for you.
