Theme Day Meeting the Storm of Emotions

Transforming Anger from Within

with Ven. Amy Miller

Strong emotions can sweep in quickly - one sharp comment, one disappointment, one tense moment - and suddenly anger, jealousy, attachment, pride, or confusion are running the show.

On this Saturday, American Buddhist teacher Ven. Amy Miller, offers a clear and comprehensive explanation of the most negative and impactful emotions, as described in Mahayana Buddhism, along with their practical and effective antidotes.

The Buddha understood something deeply human: we can’t stop emotions from arising, but we can change how we relate to them. When we do, even slightly, life becomes easier to navigate – there is more space between impulse and action, less feeling of being taken over, and more clarity in conversations and choices.

We will explore anger and its antidote, patience, paired with tools you can use in daily life: at work, in traffic, during conflict, or when expectations don’t match reality. Other imbalances in the mind will be discussed as well.

This Saturday isn’t about abstract philosophy; it’s a grounded, accessible way to understand your mind and meet strong emotions with more steadiness and spaciousness. Whether you’re completely new to Buddhism or simply looking for steadier ways to better understand your mind, you are warmly welcome. Come with your whole, ordinary, beautifully complicated human self and the curiosity and willingness to explore what transformation might feel like from the inside out.

Meditation and exercises included, along with questions and answers.

Donation

Dāna (generosity) is one of the cornerstones of the Buddhist path. By virtue of their generosity, the Buddha and the ordained sangha offer us the teachings, and in exchange, the lay community supports Dharma centers and the monastic community. This interdependence is essential for us to share the Dharma and continue our work to benefit all sentient beings. With your donation we support our teachers in their cost of living and we uphold our dharma center, which is managed entirely by volunteers.

The suggested donation for this day of teaching & meditation is €35. For students and people with low income, the suggested donation is €25. Please send us an email if you'd like to make use of this option. Keep in mind that the donation amount should never be an obstacle to your access to the Dharma. Please contact us if it might be an obstacle for you.
