FPMT Planetary Crises Summit

Resilient to be, empowered to act

In 2024, the FPMT Planetary Crises Summit was hosted by our sister center, Jamyang London. This year, Maitreya Amsterdam will organize the event in a new hybrid format.

Theme

These days are dedicated to Resilient to be, Empowered to act. The planetary crises, or metacrises, refer to the set of interconnected global challenges – such as war, climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequality – that together pose a profound threat to life on Earth.
This event offers a rich program of inspiring teachings, presentations, meditations, and shared dialogue.

Why participate?

  • Because you are touched by what is happening in the world
  • To explore together how we can deepen our Dharma practice and connect it to what is happening in the world, so we can contribute in more effective ways
  • To gain insights into how we can support one another in remaining calm, resilient, and act compassionately, and how we can be a refuge – for ourselves and for others
  • To feel supported by a community in these times

Potential contributors

Both Ven. Amy Miller and Andy Wistreich will be with us at our center in Amsterdam.

  • Serkong Tsenshab Rinpoche – described by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as “one of the most precious Dharma teachers of the new generation”
  • Ven. Amy Miller – American Buddhist teacher, hospice guide, and interfaith leader with extensive experience in integrating the Dharma into daily life
  • Ven. Losang Gendun – Dutch teacher, experienced meditator, and founder of The Buddha Project
  • Andy Wistreich – British eco-Dharma teacher, XR Buddhists, Dharma activist
  • David Midgley – British eco-Dharma teacher and bridge-builder between the FPMT and the tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

A new European hybrid and local event

We will gather in our own gompa to listen to teachings and meditations in the mornings, joined by other European sister centers, e.g. Jamyang London Buddhist Centre, Nalanda Monastery, Jamyang Buddhist Centre Leeds). In the afternoons, we will engage in conversation and reflection within our own community.

A valuable moment within FPMT Europe to connect with one another, from a place of inspiration and solidarity, and explore how to contribute to this world – both as individuals and as a community.
