Guan Yin - The Special Bodhisattva of Great Compassion
Guan Yin - The Special Bodhisattva of Great Compassion
During this four-day retreat on the Veluwe you will learn to draw (and perhaps later paint) this beautiful Buddha according to the tradition of thangka (Tibetan scroll paintings). A unique topic chosen at the request of the thangka students!
Guan Yin (also written as Kwan Yin, Kuan Yin, Kannon or Kwannon) occurs in the various Buddhist traditions of China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam. She is a form of Avalokitesvara (Tib. Chenrezig) the male bodhisattva of compassion.
The name Guan Yin is the shortened name of Guan Shi Yin , which means “Observing the Sounds of the World,” signifying her compassionate ability to listen to the pleas of anyone who needs her help.
Because she is the symbol of compassion, also towards animals, Guan Yin is also associated with vegetarianism in East Asia.
Very interesting is the story of how Guan Yin transformed from a male into a female form over the centuries , of course you will learn all about this this weekend and you will also learn to draw this beautiful female form this weekend.
In this weekend you will receive the grids of two different shapes of Guan Yin (standing and sitting, see images) and you will choose which one you will draw this weekend (and of course it is also possible to focus on her face for now) and in addition you will find out everything about her.
For whom?
This course is suitable for both beginners (yes, even if you have no drawing experience) and advanced students. As a newcomer, you should first start with the Face of the Buddha this weekend before focusing on Guan Yin.
As a newcomer, do you want to get the most out of this retreat and start with Guan Yin immediately? Then take the online Face of the Buddha course in advance .
If you have any questions about this (or other questions for which you cannot find the answers on this page), you can contact Carmen .
